Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. FSC sets standards for responsible forest management and enables consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy, to create positive change by engaging the power of market dynamics.
Currently FSC has more than 190 million of hectares as total certified area distributed in 82 countries and more than 31.250 chain of custody certified companies in a total of 120 countries.
The umbrella and membership organization FSC Asociacion Civil (A.C.) is registered under Mexican law since 1993. FSC International Center is an affiliate of FSC A.C., registered in Germany and hosting the FSC Smallholder Social Program. FSC Social Program offers policy tools that allow an easier access to certification as well as to financial and technical support to help smallholders maintain their certification and benefit from the FSC label in the market. FSC Global Development is also an affiliate of FSC A.C., also registered in Germany and hosting FSC Quality Assurance Unit, of which the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) program is part. FSC’s M&E program together with the FSC Portugal office would be the technical partner of the project.
