University of Aveiro

The University of Aveiro (UA) is one of 14 Portuguese public universities. Founded in 1973 it has evolved into one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in Portugal. Attended by ca.15,000 students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the UA has achieved a significant position amongst higher education institutions in Portugal, being one of the top universities regarding the quality of its infrastructures, the strength of its research and the excellence of its staff.

The UA’s mission is to create and expand knowledge through cooperation and extension for the benefit of people and society; to undertake the project of global development and capacitation of the individual as well as to be active in the construction of societal relations and community. UA intervenes in a wide range of knowledge areas which reflect its multidisciplinary and innovative character being able to build competences in scientific and technical areas that meet the needs of business, industry and society.

Forest-In is led by the department of biology of the UA which is currently coordinating or participating in several forest ecology and management projects. The UA’s team to be involved in the project has been developing applied research in these fields, with the results contributing for the concretion of the strategic objectives, measures and actions to be undertaken by Forest-In.
